Phiri and Radebe laud Betway 12th Man opening workshop

Following a successful launch of a groundbreaking initiative that
will see former footballers being equipped with essential skills and knowledge,
Betway concluded the first workshop of the Betway 12th Man programme set to run over
the next six months.
A first of its kind for South African football, the Betway-sponsored initiative
kicked off in Johannesburg with a two-day workshop that saw the ten selected former
football professionals going through Administration and Media training by some of
the country’s experts in the two respective fields.
Day one of the two-day programme saw the legends being educated about the importance
of sound administration in the workplace and the importance of placing world-class
administration structures within the projects and tournaments they conduct in their
communities. Former Moroka Swallows player, Alfred Phiri who spearheads the popular Maimane Phiri
(MAPS) Games in Alexandra said the workshop would greatly benefit his annual games
as proper administration would assist in ensuring that his tournament continuously
improves and attracts more sponsors and fans.

“It is important that we set quality standards when conducting tournaments in our
communities. Betway 12th Man will greatly assist us in professionalising the
different foundations and tournaments that we are involved in back in our
communities. Practicing quality administration will also assist us when presenting
our tournaments to potential sponsors and investors” said Phiri.

The course concluded on Thursday, 21 February with an intense media training
workshop where all ten legends were given tips on how to conduct themselves in a
professional manner when conducting media interviews and dealing with crisis within
the media and public space.

Speaking at the end of a fruitful two-day workshop, Betway 12th Man anchor, Lucas
Radebe who attended both days said he was excited to see what would come out of
these workshops and urged the legends to put their newly acquired knowledge to good
practice.

“The past two days have been quite fruitful, and I am quite eager to see how the
legends will implement what they have learnt so far. What Betway has started is
truly something to be admired and appreciated and I want to again urge the former
professionals to take this programme to heart as it will change their lives for the
better,” said the former Bafana Bafana captain.

The next workshop, which is set to take place in March will focus on Club
Administration where the legends will get in-depth theoretical and practical
knowledge of how to run a sports club.
