Mahindra South Africa added extra excitement to Survivor South Africa Philippines when it handed over not one, but two SUVs during the live finale in Cape Town.
The Survivor SA Season Six finale was held at the Silverline Studios in Cape Town on 16 August, where it was revealed that Tom Swartz from East London was the Sole Survivor and winner of the coveted grand prize of R1 million.
While Tom came out tops, he was not the only one walking off with great prizes. In the Mahindra Fan Favourite competition Claudette Harmse won the grand prize. This avid Survivor fan received the keys to a brand-new Mahindra XUV500 W8 Automatic, the company’s flagship SUV worth close to R400 000.
The Mahindra XUV500 is equipped with an mHawk turbodiesel engine with common rail direct injection and a variable-geometry turbocharger. The W8 Auto model tops the range with features such as leather upholstery, cruise control, remote tailgate opening with reverse camera and fully automatic temperature control. It is one of the most price-competitive premium SUVs in the market at R397 995.
“For us, sponsoring the viewer prize and partnering with Survivor South Africa were easy decisions. There is so much of the everyday adventure of the Survivor series that resonates with our ethos of being Always Up For The Challenge and our goal of providing accessible SUVs and pick-ups for adventurous South African families,” says Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.
Gupta attended the live ceremony and was on hand to congratulate Claudette and her family on their new Mahindra XUV500. Claudette and many other fans voted for their winner and added to their chances of winning by also test driving a Mahindra at their nearest dealership.
Shortly after announcing the winner of the XUV500 W8 Automatic, the presenter revealed that Mahindra had sponsored a second SUV – a KUV100 NXT – for the Survivor fans’ favourite castaway. This contestant was chosen from votes by all the viewers.
During the grand finale, Nico Panagio announced that overall winner Tom, the youngest contestant, Katinka Oosthuizen, and the wily competitor, Werner Joubert, were the three most voted-for contestants. Ultimately the keys to the shiny new KUV were handed to Werner, who received the most votes and who will drive away with a new KUV.
“We are excited to see the winners’ reaction to receiving the keys to their new Mahindra SUVs. It is clear that the Mahindra brand has grown from being an unknown challenger when it entered the market in 2004 to becoming a household brand in 2018,” says Gupta.
In the past year, Mahindra has established itself as one of the fastest growing automotive brands in the country and one of the top six bakkie manufacturers. It earned this position by offering exceptional value and a wide range of SUVs and pick-ups for both the leisure and commercial markets.
The company hopes to further strengthen its market share in South Africa in the coming year as it starts to produce the full Mahindra Pik Up range at the new Mahindra vehicle assembly facility in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
