Gospel Silinda looking forward to performing at sold-out MTN Joyous Celebration’s concert in his home province
Mpumalanga Province gospel powerhouse, Gospel Silinda is looking forward to performing in his home province this coming weekend.
Gospel who was born in Arconhoek – Bushbuckridge and now resides in Mkhuhlu in Mpumalanga says his community is the one that pushes him to work evenharder, not only as an artist, but also as an MTN Joyous Celebration choir member, because it is this very community that believed in himwhen he was still trying to break it into this industry.
Gospel who had a rocky start to his musical career is grateful to MTN for partnering with Joyous Celebration where the partnership has enabled the Joyous Celebration founders to provide its choir members with a proper platform to brand themselves, while doing what they enjoy the most– bringing hope and healing through gospel songs.
“In 2015,I quit my job as a Quality Assurance Microbiologist to pursue a career in music and I still believe that this was one of the biggest mistakes that I had madein my life,” Gospel confesses.“I used my savings to record an album, which I had to physically sell in the streets and churches. My determination to succeed, is what drove me to rebrand myself as a music minister, going around churches to train worship teams and organising worship nights – it was exactly at this point where my career took off as people now started taking me seriously.”
Two years later, Gospel’s dream came through when he joined MTN Joyous Celebration choir and since then has not looked back. The fact that he was able to fulfil his dream motivated him to putin extra hours of practice time – over and above the 20 hours that he spends practicing with the choir.
MTN prides itself on being staunch supporters of people’s passions and this is true testament of its promise:#WeGotU. The partnership between MTN and Joyous Celebration which is now in its 14th year, bears testimony to MTNspassionof supporting and showcasing South Africa’s musical talent, and promoting music that exposes more South Africans to the different genres that exist across this diverse nation.
Jacqui O’Sullivan: Executive for Corporate Affairs at MTN asserts that MTNs sponsorship of Joyous Celebration fulfils a brand marketing function that is about helping the organisation associate MTN with events, teams and people that can help promote the image, objectives and values of the brand. Individuals such as Gospel are a typical example of how MTN continues to brighten the lives of those they touch and help make their dreams a reality.
