Celebrating women who deserve a BIG thank you!

Palesa and Mom

In celebration of Women’s Month, Darling would like to honour the strong, brave and selfless women who make a positive impact in our lives.
This Women’s Month Darling is inspiring women of all ages to express themselves and their beauty! Darling has launched a nationwide campaign that seeks to spread positivity and celebrate rainmakers, by sharing stories of women who live to make the lives of others better.
Darling recently launched its #DarlingBigThankYous campaign where they asked the public to tell them about a person they believed deserved a BIG thank you. Darling’s call was to hear stories of the unsung heroes that deserve to be recognised.
From the hundreds of nominations received, Palesa’s nomination stood out. She nominated her mum because of the sacrifices she has made and continues to make for Palesa, a 23-year-old student at the University of the Free State, so she can have a brighter future.

“We were so moved by her story that we decided to do something special for Palesa to help her say a “Big Thank You” to her mother. There are women who are paving the way for the next generation and Palesa’s mum is one such hero – we truly believed that Emily, a 55-year-old domestic worker from Vereeniging, merited a big gesture of thanks for all she has done for her daughter,” said Pearle Peane, Darling’s Senior Brand Manager.

The Darling Team flew Palesa in to Johannesburg from Bloemfontein to surprise her mother with a spa day and special makeover done by Darling stylists.
Emily was overcome with emotion when Palesa gave her the happy news. After a tearful exchange between mum and daughter, the Darling team whisked them away for a day of pampering.
Palesa was especially moved when they were having a hair makeover. “One of the things we like to do when I come home is to braid each other’s hair. This has created a stronger bond between us. When we are braiding, we feel more together and we talk about everything,” said Palesa.
After being made up and decked out in new clothes, Palesa and Emily were overwhelmed by their makeovers. But Darling had one more surprise. They gave Palesa a letter to read to her mum, and Palesa couldn’t believe what she had received, R10 000 for her tuition fees.

“It is Palesa’s dream to become a teacher to inspire other people. The Darling team believes in empowering women to live their best lives with style and grace and we are honoured to help bring Palesa one step closer to her fulfilling her dream,” says Peane.
At the end of their exciting day, Palesa had this to say to her mum, “Mama, I want to thank you for everything. You are so important in my life. I love you mama.”

“Do you know of women who like Emily deserves a BIG THANK YOU? We would love to hear about them. Tell us your story using #DarlingBigThankYous, we can’t wait,” concludes Peane.
