Betway concludes successful SAFA D License coaching course in Mamelodi

The Betway-sponsored SAFA D License course was successfully concluded on Friday, 2 November at the Mamelodi Local Football Association in Pretoria. Working closely with the Mamelodi LFA, a total of 29 aspiring coaches completed the five-day course that was conducted by SAFA Instructors, Sundra Govinder and Jeff Mohloana.

The entry-level coaching course, which gives the coaches an official license to coach grassroots football covered a variety of topics which included Nutrition, Basic Factors of Performance and Philosophy of grassroots football.

Throughout the five days, a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, coupled with face to face interaction with experienced mentors such SA U20 assistant coach, Helman Mkhalele saw Betway leaving a lasting legacy to the aspiring coaches.

Over and above the official license to coach, Betway sponsored each coach with a coaching starter kit which included balls, whistles, tactical boards and other coaching essentials for them to put to test what they have learnt.

Amongst the aspiring coaches was former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Joel “Fire” Masilela who expressed his appreciation to Betway and the Mamelodi LFA for putting together the course.

“This was an eye-opening week of learning and exchanging of ideas. Football has evolved over the years and continues to do so each and every year. This is why it is important for coaches to continuously refresh their minds with the latest trends and methods of coaching. A special thank you to Betway, the Mamelodi Local Football Association and SAFA for affording us this life-changing opportunity” said an elated Masilela.

For the first time in the history of all SAFA coaching courses, the Betway-sponsored edition was attended by a coach with a hearing disability who successfully went through the course with the assistance of a sign language interpreter.

With the successful conclusion of the coaching course, Betway will soon be rolling out its next edition of community empowering initiatives as they continue to make a meaningful difference in society.
